PUNE — Brothers currently controlling an estimated ₹1 lakh crore fortune appeared in civil court Tuesday to clarify that their massive industrial empire is entirely self-acquired and has absolutely no connection to the Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) currently trying to partition it.
The ongoing legal battle traces its origins to a 2012 dispute filed by a sibling over a single family residence. The scope of the litigation expanded significantly after relatives, responding to an alleged attempt by the brothers to usurp a related business, decided to dig deeper into the family's assets. Subsequent partition suits filed in 2014 and 2024 have seen various family members demanding 1/3rd and 1/9th shares of promoter holdings across several major manufacturing firms.
Legal representatives for the defendants, who have spent the last decade denying the existence of the HUF and resisting amendments to the original suit, maintained that the wealth was independently generated and that claims of unauthorized asset alienation were baseless.
"It is a matter of profound sadness that our relatives would allege fraud and a lack of transparency over these past decades," said a spokesperson for the controlling brothers, addressing the latest court notices. "We have always been completely open about the fact that this lakh crore belongs exclusively to us."
